Anna Metaxas: The story of The Macallan is a story of unreserved dedication to mastery

Tales of The Macallan Volume II had its Bulgarian premiere just a few days ago

Anna Metaxas – The Macallan Brand Ambassador for Eastern Europe & Greece

A bottle from this limited edition was presented at a special event in Sofia and found its new owner – a Bulgarian collector who acquired it for 186,000 BGN. But this price does not only reflect a rare whisky distilled in 1949, housed in a handcrafted crystal decanter and enclosed in a luxurious 800-page edition. Behind it lies an entire philosophy – of time, craftsmanship, patience, and the stories that unfold between tradition and modernity, emotion and value, every sip and the legend it carries.

One of the people who most skilfully conveys this philosophy across borders, cultures, and markets is Anna Metaxas – The Macallan Brand Ambassador for Eastern Europe & Greece. Her role goes beyond product presentation – she translates the brand's language, making it understandable, relatable, and inspiring for different audiences.

In an interview with Money.bg, she shares her thoughts on the whisky, the people behind it, the work behind the scenes, and the world built around a brand when it becomes more than a drink – a symbol of culture, heritage, and longevity.

Anna, could you briefly describe what your work as an ambassador for The Macallan involves? What’s the most underrated part of what you do – something people don’t see, but is essential?

As a member of The Macallan’s global advocacy team, my role as a brand ambassador is to breathe life into the beautiful stories that embody the essence of the brand – through unforgettable experiences we create for both consumers and our partners. We do this by immersing them in the world of The Macallan and the process of whisky making – from our exceptional sherry oak casks to the natural colour of the spirit. Most people probably don’t realize how much time and teamwork goes into creating all these beautiful moments. Sometimes it takes weeks, even months. And if you think about it, behind everything that The Macallan represents today, there are actually 200 years devoted to the pursuit of perfection.
