Caffè Vergnano celebrates 144 years with the launch of Riserva Torino in Bulgaria

Caffè Vergnano celebrates 144 years since its founding with the launch of Riserva Torino on the Bulgarian market. The new premium range brings together the company’s family heritage with the culture and architecture of Turin. Its launch coincides with International Coffee Day and highlights the principles that have guided the brand since 1882 – careful selection of coffee beans, slow, traditional roasting and a commitment to authentic Italian espresso.

Created for international markets and at-home consumption, Riserva Torino consists of three references – Nobile, 100% Arabica and Cremoso. Each has its own intensity and aromatic profile, represented by a different iconic landmark in Turin. Nobile is associated with the Basilica of Superga, 100% Arabica with the Reggia di Venaria and Cremoso with the Mole Antonelliana. The range is available as coffee beans in 1 kg packs and as Nespresso capsules in packs of 10.

The name “Riserva” evokes selection, care and refinement, while Turin is more than a visual reference on the packaging. The city is the narrative thread of the entire range, expressing Caffè Vergnano’s Piedmontese identity through a contemporary lens.

Riserva Torino Nobile is the smoothest and most balanced blend in the range, with an intensity of 6 out of 10. The bean version combines the aromatic delicacy of Arabica from Central and South America with the more intense, chocolatey notes of Asian Robusta. Its sensory profile features hints of cocoa, pastry, cereals and caramel, while the capsule version develops notes of chocolate, malt, licorice and dried fruit. Nobile is the only blend in the range that is Rainforest Alliance certified.

The most delicate and aromatic expression in the range is Riserva Torino 100% Arabica, with an intensity of 5 out of 10 for the bean version and 4 out of 10 for the capsules. The beans reveal notes of milk chocolate, caramel, licorice and dried fruit, while the capsule version adds nuances of vanilla, almond and walnut, followed by a smooth, sweet finish. The blend conveys a sense of harmony that gradually reveals itself with every sip.

Riserva Torino Cremoso is the most intense and full-bodied blend in the collection, with an intensity of 8 out of 10 for the bean version and 10 out of 10 for the capsules. The bean profile features notes of dried fruit, cloves, licorice and bread crust. In the capsule version, notes of dark chocolate and malt come to the forefront, complemented by a full body and a compact, amber-colored crema.

The new coffee range will be available from 1 October, with Coca-Cola HBC as the exclusive distributor.

The story of Caffè Vergnano began in 1882, when Domenico Vergnano opened a small grocery shop in Piedmont and turned his passion for coffee blends into a family business. In 1930, his son Enrico marked the next important milestone in the company’s development with the acquisition of the family’s first coffee-producing farm in Kenya. In 1970, Carlo and Franco, the founder’s grandsons, took over the reins of the company. The acquisition of Casa del Caffè in Turin in 1986 strengthened the company’s position in the HoReCa sector, while from 1996 onward the brand began its steady international expansion. Today, the fourth generation of the family, Carolina, Enrico and Pietro Vergnano and the fifth, Enrico, continues to grow the business while preserving its family values and its ties to Piedmont.

Over the years, Caffè Vergnano has expanded its commitment beyond coffee production. Launched in 2018, the Women in Coffee initiative supports small businesses run by women coffee growers, as well as projects focused on economic empowerment, inclusion and respect. The family home in Chieri is also the location of Accademia Vergnano, where baristas receive both theoretical and practical training.

In 2021, Caffè Vergnano launched its strategic partnership with Coca-Cola HBC for the exclusive distribution of the brand across Coca-Cola HBC territories outside Italy. Bulgaria was the first market within the Coca-Cola HBC Group to offer the popular Italian coffee to its customers and consumers. The launch of Riserva Torino in Bulgaria marks the next step in the development of this partnership and expands the choice available to Bulgarian consumers who appreciate Italian espresso.
