THE MACALLAN PRESENTS ITS ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION TIME : SPACE IN BULGARIA

On the occasion of its 200th anniversary, the brand launches a special collection consisting of two unique releases - TIME : SPACE and TIME : SPACE Mastery

TIME : SPACE brings together both the brand's oldest 84-year-old whisky and the first whisky from new The Macallan Distillery

In celebration of its 200th anniversary, The Macallan presents the TIME : SPACE collection, comprising two special releases, TIME : SPACE and TIME : SPACE Mastery, which embody the concept of time travel through the art of whisky making. At a special event for connoisseurs, the anniversary collection will be unveiled in Bulgaria and will provide a unique opportunity for local whisky aficionados to get up close with the limited edition TIME : SPACE. It includes only 200 bottles worldwide, one for each year of The Macallan's history, and one of them will be available to connoisseurs in Bulgaria.

The two anniversary editions, TIME : SPACE and TIME : SPACE Mastery, are symbolic expressions of The Macallan's continued dedication to proven craftsmanship and creativity, while highlighting the brand's deep connection to nature, which protects its future through various defence mechanisms such as thorns, spines and spikes. The releases express its drive to connect tradition with innovation and demonstrate how the art of whisky combines both a reverence for history and a vision for tomorrow.

The flagship release to be presented in the country, TIME : SPACE, consisting of just 200 bottles worldwide, is housed in a dual chamber vessel that brings together two single malt whiskies. The outer chamber houses the brand's 84-year-old whisky, symbolising the past. It was distilled in 1940, making it the oldest single-malt whisky. Matured in two meticulously hand-selected casks - American and European oak, both seasoned with sherry in Jerez de la Frontera and aged in the countryside of Speyside, Scotland. It has a rich natural colour, a distinctive body and a lingering aftertaste. In contrast, the malt in the central chamber is the 2018 vintage - the first whisky from The Macallan's new distillery, symbolising the future and the brand's continued dedication and commitment to producing whiskies of impeccable quality and unparalleled spirit. The limited edition is housed in an oak sculpture that has been specially designed to highlight the whisky's 100% natural colour, and alternating layers of American and European oak have been chosen to craft it in tribute to the brand's tradition of producing unique oak sherry casks.

“It was an absolute privilege to be able to reach back in time and select stock from the 1940s to honour and celebrate our 200 year anniversary”, says Kirsteen Campbell, Master Whiskey Maker, The Macallan, adding: "As a Whisky Mastery Team, our roles are unique in the sense that we get to time travel – selecting whisky from the past crafted by our predecessors, whilst simultaneously laying down casks for future generations of whisky makers and consumers. To nose, taste and select whisky created over eight decades ago is an exceptionally rare occasion in the life of a whisky maker and one which I will treasure."

The second, anniversary edition, TIME : SPACE Mastery, is a multi-layered single malt whisky recreating 200 years of history. It reflects the craftsmanship of whisky making, showcasing a range of 14 distinctive cask types, creating layers of complexity with incredible depth of aroma, texture and flavour.

"Inspired by past masters, we have explored the full extent of our warehouses to capture the complex influences of cask seasoning, oak origin, cask size and distillery character in one incredibly special bottle of whisky - with the elegance provided by European Oak sitting at its heart",  said Euan Kennedy, Lead Whisky Maker, for TIME : SPACE Mastery.

The whisky is presented in a unique circular decanter, representing the cycle of time and the continuous journey from the past to the future. In contrast to the sophistication of its exterior, the inside of the case comes to life with a bright red colour - synonymous with The Macallan - and 200 spikes, symbolising the brand's 200th anniversary and demonstrating the way nature preserves its future through various protective mechanisms that guard the most precious and fragile. The intricate details are created using techniques derived from the art of origami to protect what is most precious about The Macallan, its whisky.
