The Macallan's collectible single malt whisky The Reach arrives in Bulgaria

1 of 288 limited bottles will be offered for purchase in the country via the so-called "ballot" method

The Macallan's collectible single malt whiskey The Reach is coming to Bulgaria and in June, the most dedicated fan of the brand in the country will be given the opportunity to become the owner of 1 of 288 bottles worldwide.

The 81-year-old limited edition spirit is the oldest whisky ever released by the Scottish brand, distributed by Coca-Cola HBC in Bulgaria. The work of art, crafted by The Macallan's first-class whisky masters, will await its new owner this June, being offered by The Residence Exclusive Club, which has been the "Spiritual Home of The Macallan" in Bulgaria for seven years.

The Reach reflects an extraordinary moment in time, serving as an example of the unwavering spirit that has been at the heart of the distillery for 200 years. Established during the Second World War, at a time of increasing hardship, it was laid down to age in 1940 before The Macallan was forced to close its doors for the first time in its history.

“It is an honour to introduce The Reach. Created during a turbulent time in the world, this extraordinary expression showcases The Macallan’s history, ingenuity and unmistakable strength of character,“ says Kirsteen Campbell, Master Whisky Maker at The Macallan, adding “The creation of many hands, The Reach has been a truly collaborative effort. It’s also a tribute

to the people who made this precious whisky, and their enduring spirit which never wavered. Its deep auburn hue is the first hint of this remarkable whisky’s astonishing depth. Offering notes of dark chocolate, sweet cinnamon and aromatic peat, leading on to treacle toffee, crystalised ginger and nutmeg, before giving way to an intensely rich, sweet and smoky finish.”

The existence of The Reach is a testament to the care and pursuit of excellence that has driven The Macallan from its founding in 1824 to today. The limited-edition whisky pays tribute to those who have strived amid great hardship to revive The Macallan distillery, as well as the craftsmen who continue to uphold the brand's values today. The Reach is a rare single malt whisky produced from a single oak sherry cask. The dark, precious whisky is encased in an exquisite decanter made from blown glass and set on a bronze sculpture of three hands. Each hand represents a character from The Macallan's history. One of them commemorates the distillery workers from the 1940s who were instrumental in creating the unique whisky in difficult times, more than eight decades ago. Another is the hand of one-time chairman, Allan Shiach, whose grandfather headed the company when this remarkable spirit was first consigned to its cask. The third is that of today's master whisky maker Kirstееn Campbell, who carefully selected the 1940 cask used to create The Reach, deciding that now was the time to share this precious whisky with the world.

The Reach arrives in Bulgaria its unique original packaging, created by a team of Scottish artisans. The result is a handcrafted harmonious combination of precious liquid, glass, bronze, and wood. Sculptor Saskia Robinson creates the timeless sculpture with three hands, making countless drawings from every possible perspective before working with a physical model. The veins, nails, and skin details are recreated with extraordinary accuracy, modeled on an artist's impression of a hand of one of the original stillmen. The sculpture is cast in bronze and the glimmer of the metal contrasts with the dark amber whiskey. The surface of the glass decanter features subtle indentations to match the fingerprints of the bronze hands that supported it, and a beautiful cabinet crafted using wood from a fallen elm tree, which is thought to have been on The Macallan Estate in 1940, houses the decanter.
