A bottle of The Macallan's 81-year-old single malt whisky The Reach was sold in Bulgaria for BGN 265 000

One of 288 bottles that were crafted in the turbulent 1940s, was acquired by a local collector


One of the 288 bottles of the oldest whisky The Reach, of the Scottish brand The Macallan, whose distributor in the country is Coca-Cola HBC Bulgaria, was purchased by a local collector for BGN 265 000. It is the first time in Bulgaria that whisky enthusiasts & connoisseurs were given access to such a scarce release by The Macallan

It is an absolute honour for us to be back in Sofia and share this remarkably rare Single Malt with our community here. The Reach is the ultimate testament of The Macallan's commitment to uncompromised  excellence which is reflected both in the 81 year old, precious liquid  but also the stunning, one of a kind decanter and statue that holds it.  This is an extraordinary moment in the history of the brand, and we are delighted to celebrate two centuries of our enduring spirit, with many more to come. This year, The Macallan is 200 years young. – said Anna Metaxas, The Macallan's Regional Ambassador for Eastern Europe and Greece, at a special event dedicated to the collector's bottle at The Residence Exclusive Club, which has been the Spiritual Home of The Macallan for seven years.

A rare single malt at 81 Years Old, The Reach is the oldest whisky ever released by The Macallan, crafted from a single, sherry seasoned oak cask. The dark, precious whisky is encased in an exquisite decanter created from mouth-blown, hot glass, cradled on a bronze sculpture of three hands.Each hand represents characters in The Macallan’s history and their unique story. One commemorates the Distillery workers of 1940 who crafted the spirit into existence, in challenging times, over eight decades ago. Another is the hand of one-time chairman, Allan Shiach, whose grandfather headed the company when this remarkable spirit was first consigned to its cask. The third is that of today’s Master Whisky Maker, Kirsteen Campbell, who carefully selected the 1940 cask used to create The Reach, deciding that now was the time to share this precious whisky with the world.

Created during a turbulent time in the world, this extraordinary expression showcases brand’s rich history, ingenuity and unmistakable strength of character The Macallan is renowned for since it was founded in 1824. It also pays tribute to those who strived amid great adversity to resume distilling The Macallan’s spirit, as well as the craftspeople today who continue to uphold the brand’s values.
